Is it possible to get permission to build and release a Live CD that includes a default ColdFusion Developer edition install on it? Or a VMWare image?

This would open a lot of possibilities for evangelizing and testing.

I was asking for permission to do the same with Amazon EC2 to spin up a CF server on Amazon’s hardware for testing but it all went quiet after some initial Adobe interest.

Adam – who did you talk to at Adobe? I understand it’s kind of a slippery slope but honestly, so long as you’re distributing it in its stock form without a license key, does it really matter that you’re not downloading it straight from Adobe.com? All we need is a disclaimer of warranty so Adobe isn’t on the hook to support a custom release. This is a way to get people playing with it which eventually leads to the almighty metric of sales!

this has been brought up numerous times in the past. Fact is, this will never happen. Adobe is not going to “give away” a $1500 product and using the developer edition is basically not worth the effort.

It’s been suggested in the past that the only way to produce a live cd is to use either Railo or BD.

How are they giving away a 1500 project if there is no license key. The developer edition can be converted over to a full version by entering in or uploading the license key. I think that is all people are asking for. If I want to test the latest version of CF all I would need is the developer version or if I wanted to out CF all I would need is the developer version.

@Tony, Adobe wouldn’t be giving anything away that they aren’t giving away today. I want the ability to install the developer edition, the same exact thing you can download today from Adobe and install with no charge, onto a Live CD for evangelizing and testing. Read the details on Adobe’s site:
